Filtration insert / volcanic substrate 5mm

Natural insert for biological filtration in pond filters - designed for biological water filtration in ponds, water gardens, freshwater aquariums, paludariums, aquaterrariums, and terrarium pools. 
It takes the form of gravel made from carefully selected volcanic lava, providing a very high sorption capacity, and due to its rough structure and large filtration surface, it creates ideal conditions for the development of nitrifying bacteria that break down harmful substances in the aquarium.
The use of volcanic lava insert effectively reduces the level of organic pollutants, maintaining clean and clear water. It provides an ideal substrate for the growth of beneficial bacterial flora. It also retains suspended matter in the filter that causes water turbidity.

It protects fish from harmful nitrogenous substances and allows for a reduction in the size and frequency of water changes.
To maintain biological balance, it is recommended to regularly wash the insert in water and only partially replace the insert with a new one.
It should be placed in the filter, preferably just behind the layer of mechanical inserts (sponges or cotton) so that the water entering there is already pre-cleaned of visible suspensions.
Lava can be used in external filters, cascades, sumps, and filtration systems.
