Burns caused by contact with an unprotected heat source (bulb, cable or heating mat) are among the most common unfortunate accidents in terraria. Reptiles are particularly prone to this. Due to their ectothermic thermophobia and high pain threshold, these animals usually only react to excessive heat when serious tissue damage has already occurred.  It is therefore necessary to prevent reptiles from having direct access to a radiant heater or heating bulb.
